ULTEM™ Resin

ULTEM™ Resin is a material family of thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI).

ULTEM™ Resin is characterised by properties such as very good heat resistance, good dimensional stability and high strength and stiffness, even at elevated temperatures thanks to its high Tg of 217 °C. The material also has very good chemical resistance. Unlike most other amorphous thermoplastics, ULTEM has better resistance to stress cracking when exposed to fluids common in the automotive industry, alcohols and acids. Due to its composition, the material has inherent flame resistance without the addition of flame retardants, and an LOI of 47 %.

Both unfilled and reinforced materials with glass fibre and mineral fillers are available.

ULTEM™ Resin is easy to process in conventional machinery for both extrusion and injection moulding. The material is available in coloured, opaque and transparent shades, and can be processed by both injection moulding and extrusion.

Since late 2021, the ULTEM™ portfolio has been supplemented with ISCC+ certified materials. These materials, partly based on renewable raw materials such as tall oil, offer a more sustainable alternative to the existing range.

ULTEM™ is offered with extensive approvals for demanding applications in medical technology, aerospace and drinking water contact.
