Reach & Rohs

As a distributor and importer of chemicals, Erteco is required to comply with the obligations set out in the REACH Regulation (EC No 1907/2006).

Manufacturers and importers are responsible for registering chemicals, identifying all uses, developing exposure scenarios, recommending appropriate risk management measures, and communicating all exposure scenarios through the supply chain via safety data sheets. We work closely with our suppliers to register the substances we purchase and import into the European Union. Manufacturers outside the European Union are required either to provide the EU importer with the information necessary for registration or to appoint an Only Representative within the European Union to fulfil the obligations on their behalf. All Erteco suppliers either manufacture within the European Union or have appointed an Only Representative.

REACH is the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe handling (EC 1907/2006). It covers the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances. The law came into force on 1 June 2007. REACH aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment through better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. At the same time, REACH seeks to increase innovation and competitiveness in the EU chemical industry. The benefits of the REACH system will become apparent gradually as more and more substances are phased into REACH.

RoHS (Directive 2002/95/EC) stands for Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It is an EU directive that prohibits or restricts the use of certain heavy metals and flame retardants in electrical and electronic products on the market. RoHS came into force within the European Union on 1 July 2006.
