Calsec

Calsec® is a tailored formulation of specialty chemicals used, among other things, in rubber compounds. The product is available in two variants: Calsec® FE (calcium hydroxide) and Calsec® UF (calcium oxide).

In rubber compounds, Calsec® is used primarily as a moisture absorber (Calsec® UF) and as a highly active activator (Calsec® FE) in, for example, bisphenol-cured FKM compounds.

Calsec® FE is a special type of micronised calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] used in crosslinking of fluoroelastomers. The raw material is regulated under FDA 21 CFR 184.1(b)(1) and is considered generally recognised as safe (GRAS). It may therefore be used in fluoroelastomer compounds intended for food contact.

Calsec® products are offered in several different forms with different melting points — for example as gel, powder or pellets. It is recommended to add the raw material at the end of the mixing cycle.

The raw material can be used to manufacture, for example, mould release agents, processing aids, lubricants and dispersing agents. It is used across many industries, but typically in the automotive or pharmaceutical industry.
