Metallersättning

Today, there are many reasons to replace metal with plastic. Reduced weight and greater design freedom are two key advantages.

Die-cast brass, zinc and aluminum can often be successfully replaced with plastic. One advantage of designing components in plastic is that they can usually be produced in the desired color directly from the machine, without the need for painting. Secondary operations such as deburring, threading and drilling can also be eliminated. Replacing metal with plastic can reduce time-consuming and costly production steps without compromising quality. Today, plastic is used as a metal replacement in many industries. Examples of industries where metal replacement has been particularly successful include automotive, plumbing and HVAC, and healthcare.

Metal replacement an environmentally smart alternative

Plastics are generally processed at lower temperatures than metals, reducing energy consumption during production. Plastic components are also typically lighter than metal components, which can reduce environmental impact and transportation costs. Our materials for metal replacement are recyclable.

Tech Center

Our technical department, Erteco Tech Center, has extensive experience in metal replacement, component design, material selection and technical support.

We have the technical equipment and expertise to perform finite element analysis (FEA), mold filling simulations and participate in production trials. We use well-established software tools and can, for example, assist with 3D design reviews. Our projects are carried out in close collaboration with our customers’ design departments, injection molders, toolmakers and end users.

Contact Erteco Tech Center if you are considering whether your product is suitable for metal replacement.

Tech Center Team

We have the knowledge and experience to convert metal components to plastic, which often requires modifications to the component’s construction and design.
