PE

PE stands for polyethylene and is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic in the polyolefin category.

PE can be produced in two ways, giving either low (LDPE) or high density (HDPE). The material family is divided into groups LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE and HDPE. They have increasing density from LDPE up to HDPE and therefore also increasing stiffness.

PE is naturally white or translucent, but can easily be coloured during processing with the help of masterbatch. Many PE materials are approved for food contact and are often used for packaging of various kinds; it also lends itself well to recycling. Polyethylene can also be produced from non-fossil raw materials.

PE is used across many industries — for example carrier bags, foil, film, bottles, buckets and cutting boards. It is also suitable for sliding rails, cable insulation, underfloor heating pipes and fuel tanks.
