PC/ABS

PC/ABS is an amorphous polymer blend of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene (which together form ABS).

Blending materials lets you reach more and better properties tailored to your specific application. The thermoplastic blend gives the material a unique combination of qualities from both PC and ABS. PC adds high impact toughness, very good mechanical properties and high heat resistance, while ABS contributes good flow and excellent processing properties.

This blend is suitable when you have a greater need for the material to function at high temperatures. Flame retarding this blend is also easier and more environmentally friendly than doing so with pure ABS.

PC/ABS can be processed by various methods such as injection moulding. It is also possible to surface treat via processes such as electroplating and metallisation. The material is often used to manufacture applications in electronics or automotive, for example.

  • Good tensile and flexural properties
  • Good UV resistance compared to ABS
  • Good heat resistance compared to ABS
  • Easier to process by injection moulding than PC
  • Good processing properties compared to PC
  • Glass transition temperature around 130° C
