Tenac™

TENAC™ is a semi-crystalline material belonging to the acetal plastic (polyoxymethylene) family, built up of acetal groups. POM occurs both as a homopolymer and a copolymer, and Asahi is the world’s only manufacturer of both types.

In terms of properties they are fairly similar and differ only in a few areas. The homopolymer has slightly better mechanical properties, while the copolymer has better hot-water resistance. Some key properties of TENAC™ POM are its good strength and toughness, low friction and excellent wear resistance.

Another advantage is that the polymer is highly resistant to oils and solvents, and that it retains its high performance across a wide temperature range, even at low temperatures.

TENAC™ is suitable for applications such as the manufacture of mechanical components within electronics and industrial applications. It is particularly common in automotive industry applications, such as gears, speaker grilles, window regulators and locking mechanisms.
Snap-fit applications are also very common thanks to the material’s good properties for that purpose.
