ULTEM Foam is a rigid foam based on the polyetherimide (PEI) polymer. The material currently excels as the core component of several modern high-performance composite systems. It can be combined with thermoplastics and thermosetting plastic to create e.g. sandwich-structured composites.
ULTEM Foam is characterized by properties such as low moisture absorption and good compatibility with different kinds of laminate. This lightweight material is suited for application areas in e.g. medical equipment, vehicle and airplane interiors, and telecoms applications. The material is FST compatible and has low dielectric properties, making it particularly well suited to these applications.
ULTEM Foam can be processed in several different ways – machining, thermoforming, and compression molding – to achieve the desired design. In this way, the most cost-effective process available can be selected for each application.
