Sustainability is more important than ever and is a natural part of running a modern and responsible business. European regulations are changing quickly, including changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and new rules on how companies communicate sustainability to consumers.
CSRD has recently been updated through the EU’s Omnibus package, which introduces revised thresholds and later start dates for many companies. Only the very largest companies are affected immediately, while others have a longer implementation period. The proposed Green Claims Directive is currently on hold and may be withdrawn. At the same time, rules on how companies can communicate environmental claims will be tightened through the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) directive. From September 2026, generic environmental claims and “climate-neutral” marketing based on carbon offsetting will be prohibited.
It is therefore more important than ever to stay up to date and make informed decisions about materials, processes, and communication.
