\n PBT <\/h1>\n \n
\n

PBT stands for polybutylene terephthalate and is a semi-crystalline polyester-based thermoplastic. The material has very good mechanical and electrical properties as well as very low moisture uptake \u2014 which makes it well suited for electronics products.<\/p>\n\n

PBT also has good thermal stability, meaning it can withstand high temperatures. Adding glass fibre to the material gives even better strength and heat resistance. It is also very common to add flame retardants to PBT for use in electrical applications.<\/p>\n\n

PBT can be used in a range of applications. As mentioned, it is very useful in the electronics industry for applications such as lighting (downlights\/spotlights), contacts and switches. It is also common in the manufacture of automotive components such as engine covers and parts for ignition or electrical systems.<\/p>\n\n

Main properties:<\/p>\n\n

  • High mechanical properties<\/li>\n\n
  • Good thermal stability (up to 150\u00b0 C)<\/li>\n\n
  • Low moisture uptake<\/li>\n\n
  • High dimensional stability<\/li>\n\n
  • Good friction and wear properties<\/li>\n\n
  • Chemical resistance against aliphatic hydrocarbons, oils and greases<\/li>\n\n
  • Good dielectric properties<\/li>\n\n
  • Excellent UV resistance<\/li>\n\n
  • Melting temperature around 217\u00b0 C<\/li>\n\n
  • Glass transition temperature (Tg) of 60\u00b0 C<\/li>\n\n
